In this presentation, Havva will discuss her ongoing work on Islamic legal critiques that challenge the legitimacy of women’s inequality in Islamic law’s traditional theory of marriage, advance a new egalitarian Islamic theory of marriage, and offer a concrete reform proposal to achieve women’s equality in divorce and post-divorce property rights in Islamic law.
