This event will examine the destruction of cultural heritage in armed conflict with a focus on the recent harm done to archaeological, historic, and religious sites in Yemen. It will also discuss legal protections and ground-level responses. Speakers will include Robert Bevan, author of the new book Monumental Lies: Culture Wars and the Truth about the Past, and Eman Homaid, executive director of the INSAF Center for Defending Freedoms and Minorities, a Yemeni nongovernmental organization. The conversation will be moderated by Bonnie Docherty of Harvard Law School’s International Human Rights Clinic.
